Hello, I’m Alba Aguilar!
I’ve always been driven by a curiosity for the creative and cultural stories behind the things we see, use, and experience. That interest first led me to study fashion design, not to create garments, but to understand the processes and narratives behind them.
Soon after, I realized my passion went beyond fashion. I was drawn to broader stories — how people live, where they travel, and the experiences that shape culture. That’s where I’ve built my professional path: as a content editor, strategist, and creator focused on lifestyle, travel, and culture.
I’ve worked as Editor-in-Chief at The Happening, Digital Editor at InStyle México, and Deputy & Digital Editor at Food & Wine en Español. I’ve also contributed to Forbes Life México, Robb Report México, and Travel & Leisure en Español.
I’ve launched and led my own projects, including La Hotelista (along with my business partner Cristina Alonso) and M de Museos, collaborating with global brands and building audiences through storytelling and strategy.
When I’m not working, you’ll find me discovering new restaurants, exploring local shops, or spending hours walking through museums.
My Story: From Fashion to Lifestyle, Travel and Culture
I grew up in a time when the internet wasn’t what it is today, and fashion magazines were a gateway to a fantasy world filled with clothes you wouldn’t see in stores, shoes worthy of museum displays, and makeup looks that defied beauty norms. That world captivated me, and from a young age, I knew I wanted to be part of it. My dream was to become a fashion critic, inspired by Cathy Horyn from The New York Times, whose writing I followed religiously.
To achieve this, I wanted to understand how to create the things I would one day critique, so I enrolled in a fashion program. I spent years in front of a sewing machine, with Prismacolors and Chartpaks as my best friends. I studied collections every season, WGSN was my bible, and I began collecting fashion magazines from Mexico and around the world.
After graduation, I moved back to Mexico City, where I was born, and began working in lifestyle media. I learned about gastronomy, luxury, beauty, watchmaking, and even cars. But what truly captured my heart was the travel industry, and from that moment, my world changed completely.
I had the chance to visit countries I never imagined, discover new places, and meet people who will always have a special place in my life. Over time, I also made peace with my younger self — the one who was so attached to a fashion world that no longer existed — and allowed my dreams to evolve.
Along the way, I developed new skills and found passion in areas I explored thanks to my work. This led me to launch two projects: one focused on the hotel industry and the other on museums. Both have helped me grow personally and professionally, challenged me to step out of my comfort zone, and become the spaces where I now invest my time and heart.
I learned that fashion isn’t just about clothes. Fashion is everything: what we eat and see, what we listen to, and the places we visit. This realization opened my eyes to a broader world of creativity and storytelling — one that has shaped my career and continues to inspire me to embrace new projects, create content, explore destinations, and share stories about the things that move me.
